Training Day and Mini Tournament at Salisbury High School
Monday 28th September 2009

On Monday 28th September, Leaden Hall’s A team went to Salisbury High for a training day followed by a mini tournament. As the teams were arriving we recognised a few faces such as Olivia Day, Natasha White, Lexy Burdge and Freya Crosthwaite who were all playing for Godolphin.

Once everyone had arrived, we were split into 6 groups and went to 6 stations where we worked on different things like footwork, shooting, space work and more. After that we had a short break and then went to some more stations to carry on our training. We then had our lunch and a rest. After lunch the tournament took place. First up was St Edmunds. We had a great match and won 5 – 1!

Next we played South Wilts. They had a great team and they were quite tall – they won 2–1! We weren’t very disappointed as we all played really well. After we played South Wilts, we played Salisbury High. We won 6 – 1! Our next match was against the dreaded Godolphin, the team we most wanted to play. Their Goal Defence was sooooo tall as were a few others. We were THRASHED! They won 9-0

After playing the hardest game, we played St Joseph’s and won 4 – 0. Last we played Avon Valley. Both teams played well but we won 7 – 2. Every one enjoyed the afternoon. At the end of it we were given some prizes. We came 3rd with 14 points. South Wilts came 2nd with 16 points and Godolphin came 1st with 18 points. We were really pleased as we had played against Year 7’s.

We would like to say a huge Thank You to Salisbury High for hosting the day, to Mrs Thomas for driving us there and umpiring, to the Kitchen Staff for a yummy lunch and to all of the Schools for taking part.
Thank You!

Match report - Year 6 A team against Godolphin Year 7
Wednesday 28 January 2009
The Year 6 A team played Godolphin Year 7 which was really good fun. Although we had played their B team before it was the first time we had played the A team which included several old Leaden Hall girls! The game was fast and furious and it was a close match but they managed to beat us 3 -1. In the second game they were even better and their goal shooter was amazing, hardly missing any goals at all. I was voted player of the first match and Beth Stannah was player of the second match. We then got to play the Year 7 B team and as we had beaten them the last time we played them we were feeling confident. We played really well and Sophia shot some fantastic goals. The final score was 6 – 0 to Leaden Hall – a win at last! Well done to all the team and especially Sophia Haine who was player of this match – she really deserved it! Thank you Mrs Cooke and Mrs Belsey for taking us and supporting us.

Match report - Year 6 A team against South Wilts
Wednesday 21 January 2009
The Year 6 A team played two netball matches against South Wilts. We had played their B team before and were expecting the A’s to be very good – we were right! Early on in the match we were one goal ahead but this did not last very long! South Wilts just seemed to keep shooting goal after goal. We managed to shoot a couple of goals but it was not enough. By the end of the first match the score was 15 – 4 to South Wilts. We were still eager to win the second match and we played a bit better and were much more confident! Both teams shot a couple of goals but South Wilts had another burst! The final score was 12 - 3. I was voted player of the first match and Annabel Harding was voted player of the second match. Thank you to Mrs Cooke and Mrs Belsey – someday we WILL beat them!

Match report - Year 6 A and B teams played Dumpton Year 6 A and B teams.
Wednesday, 14th January,

Match report for the A team
Yesterday the Year 6 A team played netball against Dumpton. For once Mrs Cooke let us play our own age group! They were not as tall as some of the teams we have played but they were very fast! The game started well and both teams shot a couple of goals. At half time the scores were level at 5 all. The Mummies were now shouting very loudly and we were determined to win this match! At the end of the third quarter the score was 10 – 8 to Leaden Hall. Unfortunately Dumpton had a final burst in the last quarter and the final score was 13 – 11 to them. We were not too disappointed as we played well as a team and it was very close. As always, a huge thank you to Mrs Cooke for umpiring, and for all her useful tips. Well done to Hope who was player of the match.

Match report for the B team
We won the toss and chose the first centre pass. Eliza did a great first pass which was then received by Sarah or Claudia and down to the goal. This routine was followed loads of times until Dumpton scored a goal. The Dumpton team were good and their goal was great. By half time the score was 11/1 to us and by that time we found that it was definitely easier shooting up court. In the second half, Dumpton became more assertive and we had to work a lot harder to get the ball. They scored another 3 goals which were pretty good, but we scored 9 more thanks to Sarah who scored a lot of them! The whole team worked really hard and it was worth it because the final score was 20/4 to us. Our team played excellently. Thank you to Mrs Cooke for getting us this far, to Mrs Belsey for helping us along the game, to Mrs Thomas for umpiring us, to the cooks for preparing a great tea and to Dumpton for an fantastic game. Well done Sarah for being voted player of the match!

Match Report – U11 Netball match against South Wilts Grammar School Wednesday 12th November 2008
Yesterday the Year 6 A team played South Wilts Year 7 B’s. We saw them warming up and we all got quite nervous because they were so tall. We lost the toss so they choose to take first centre pass. They got the ball quickly to their shooters for the first goal. Next Lexy had the ball and it was our centre, Sophia whizzed into a space a passed to Natasha who shot her first goal. The game was quite even, but at half-time South Wilts had the edge and were leading 8-6. Following a quick tactic talk with Mrs Cooke at half time, we came back onto the court very determined to level the score. Annabel swapped on as Goal Shooter and Tish did a great job supporting us along the way. It was South Wilts centre, Beth did a great job of intercepting the ball, but sadly they got the ball back. Unfortunately they managed to score another goal.

Our hopes were high and we really wanted to win so we quickly shot another goal. Unfortunately when their goal attack got into the circle, Freya had a very hard job to reach any of the balls and intercept, because she was so tall!

South Wilts went on and scored 5 more goals to our one goal. It was a South Wilts centre and no matter how hard Freya, Beth and Hope tried, South Wilts got another goal. We had managed to get the ball down to the circle and near to getting another goal when the whistle went! The final score was 14-8 - we all played very well. South Wilts played a good game too.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Cooke for giving us tips along the way and South Wilts for a fun, exciting match. Well done to Sophia who got voted player of the match.

Match Report – Wednesday 22nd October 2008
Yesterday, Year 6 A team played an exciting match between Godolphin B team. We were very nervous as it was our first league game AND it was against a Year 7 team. When Godolphin’s team came on we saw old girls, Alexandra Whittle, Kavita Shergill, Libby Hollingshead, and Izzy Harding.

Although it was wonderful to see them again, Mrs Cooke said there was no time to be nice! It was our centre pass as we had won the toss and them the game began. We quickly got the ball down to our shooter, who scored a goal, and it was 1- nil to us. The ball kept being passed around the place and we made silly mistakes. At one time I think my brain had fallen out of my ears as it was off-side and a free pass or shot, so I took it and tried to lob it over to Natasha but I was aiming for the wrong place and it just went off-side again!

At halftime it was 4-3 to us. We had a talk about team tactics and then started for another 15 minute game. We got a lot better at our channels and spaces but more importantly our catching! It was Godolphin centre and they scored a lot of goals but there was no time to think downwards, as we held on tight, and finally at the end, the score was 7 – 11 to us, we had won!!

It was a very exciting game and a great big thank you to Mrs Cooke, Mrs Belsey for loads of useful tips on the way, Godolphin for a fantastic match and everybody who was playing and supporting us. Lexy Burdge was voted player of the match which was well deserved!
